About me
Hi my name is Mariah Casmey and I am completing the second year of my Master of Science in Forest Biology and Management under the supervision of Dr. Andreas Hamann and Dr. Uwe Hacke. Prior to beginning my studies in forest biology I was a diligent student back home in Minnesota with a passion for the environment. I earned my degree in Environmental Studies where I gained recognition for my abilities by graduating magna cum laude and earning distinction in my senior thesis for an innovative analytical approach. I also earned the Casper Award from my department for my academic achievements. Along the way I honed my data analysis skills which propelled me into several research internships - notably one was a competitive REU at the Morton Arboretum. Most recently I worked as a consultant for the City of Edmonton to develop a prioritization scheme for their naturalization efforts using GIS. I am excited to put my skills in data analysis as I look to enter the environmental field after completing my MSc.

Outside of work I enjoy running, birding, knitting, and working outside local community gardens. Recently I have been getting to know some of the favorite Canadian winter pastimes including cross-country skiing, ice skating (often on the sidewalks outside my house!), and complaining about winter road conditions.
